Is my python underweight?

Hello!
I just got my first snake, so honestly, I don't really know exactly how to care for him. He's about 27 years old, just a regular old ball python, who used to be a class pet at an elementary school.
He's about 3 feet long, and isn't too big around. Im not sure how to weigh him, so I'm not sure how much he weighs. His owner said that he eats once every 4 months, and that it can be hard to get him to eat and that once he went 10 months without any food. He also refuses to eat frozen/thawed rats.
So she said to feed him a medium sized rat every couple months. I've had him for 3 weeks now, and he successfully ate his rat about a week ago. (It was knocked out so he doesn't get bit) and he seemed pretty hungry. The last time he was fed before that was in June (the owner thinks?). And I'm not sure if that's often enough? Or how to tell if he's not getting enough food?
So I've attached some pictures, if y'all could help me out that would be greatly appreciated

You need 5 posts before posting pictures.

However, with that aside, you could feed him a medium rat once a month. He will be fine.
