Help with vision V180

I need some assistance. I purchased a V180 setup extremely cheap. I was wondering if I could use one of the shelves on the rack to heat smaller tubs of hatchlings/Juvi SD Retics,Blod Pythons, or BCC/BCI ? I figure if I take one tub, and put the temp sensor inside that I would get an accurate reading, or I can put the temp sensor next to the heat cable and get a reading that way. What do you guys think is this something that will work, or am I just grasping for straws?

The whole thing is I got the V180 at a price at a time where I cant really afford anything. But I bought it anyways. I should have bought a reptile basics rack for hatchings/Juvi, but now I am stuck with a V180, and no where to house the new arrivals I will be purchasing in the next year or two. So I am trying to figure out if I can use the V180 for some smaller tubs, and just put those tubs on top of the heat cable, or if I am going to have to buy a CB-70, and a VE-6
