Considering a Burmese.

I'm considering a Burmese python. Are the requirements similar to a Retic? Are Burms any more susceptible to RI then a Retic?

Any information is greatly appreciated!!

In my personal experience - Yes. I lost a pair of dwarf burms due to RI. Yet - presently have 4 retics (high percentage super dwarf blood) which are being kept at roughly the same temperature range and humidity. All are doing fine.

Are the requirements similar to a Retic?

Cage wise - yes burms and retics require roughly the same size enclosures.


Temperature wise - Burms actually need it a bit warmer than retics prefer.

Retics can do just fine - with night time temps in the low 70's, average temps in the mid to upper 70's, and basking temps in the upper 80's to about 90 F.

Burms actually need - night time temps in the upper 70's- low 80's, average temps in the low to mid 80's, and basking temps of in the low 90's

Never had an RI with any of my retics but I did with one of my burms, that could just have been my luck.

I had actually forgotten I made this post, didnt have a response for like 4 months haha.

I ended up not getting a Burmese due to higher chance of RI.

I have never had problems with burms as long as they came from a reputable breeder. The two I lost were from a no name seller at a reptile expo with 20 snakes in a ten gallon. Lesson learned.

I wouldn't let the risk of an RI affect my decision to get a burmese if that is what you really want. just my 2 cents. Congrats on the retic !!!

That's true I shouldn't let a risk of it affect my decision. May still get one eventually.
