My husband killed my snake 😥😥😫😫

Idk what happened I left for a business convention on Friday and came home Sunday. (today) and went to check sapphire and here she was dead. My husband says the only thing he did was blast the radio but I have no clue all I know is that I am super super sad. I was wondering if the radio could possibly kill her like that.

I do not think it was the radio. You should get a digital thermometer that records daily high and low temperatures so you can see if the terrarium has spiking or dipping temperatures. Sometimes snakes die for no apparent reason but often there is a husbandry or other environmental problem at fault that can be corrected.

I didn't have a digital thermometer but I will get one before I get another snake I'm not going to take a chance with something like this happening again if I can control it. He did put a new Scentsy wax in my wax warmer, a smell that I had never used, could it be that? I've used the Scentsy before but never that smell.

It happens, I've had young snakes that seemed fine and healthy die for no apparent reason. Temp/humidity, etc were correct, no apparent stress or respiratory infection, when I checked on them to feed or clean the enclosure they were dead.

Snakes pick up vibration through their jawbone where it is then transmitted to their brain.
With very strong bass being popular while listening to music, that would transmit a lot of vibration.

BRB's are a bit more challenging to raise but I'm sure you had everything in place to accommodate Saphire just fine.

It's hard to say what the cause was for your snakes death but an electronic thermometer will not do anything to prevent extreme temps from occurring on your next business trip. It will only tell you if your snake was cooked or frozen.

Myself personally, I would never blast anything around my snakes and never have. I don't believe science has any animal totally figured out. Science hasn't even figured humans out yet.

As far as the wax scents you referred to. Once again unless it is fresh air coming through open windows, I avoid that stuff too. Like I said earlier, science hasn't totally figured us out yet and I can guarantee with 100% certainty no studies have ever been conducted how wax scents affect snakes.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I highly doubt your husband killed your snake though.

Although the digital thermometer wouldn't have prevented this, they're still good to have.

I don't think the wax would have done it either, but I refrain from anything like that in my snake room to be safe.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned: are your heat sources regulated by a thermostat?????
Unregulated heat sources can basically slow cook a snake if they spike.

So sorry to hear about your snake! like the other guys, I doubt the wax melt will have affected it. My other half has Yankee Candles on the go constantly, one of them actually on top of my milk snakes viv in our living room. So i'm pretty sure whatever caused your snakes death, it won't have been that!

Thanks guys for all the responses as to the question about the thermostat yes I do have a thermostat that I run all of my heating elements on and my temp doesn't go to go over 81 degrees I like hey if that would be the issue but it shouldn't have been.

Well, I'm not one to follow the consensus all the time...however, most posts that I've seen highly recommend against all scented candles, oil lamps, etc. to avoid respiratory issues.

Invest in a good digital thermostat like Herpstat. Not exactly cheap, but if you're really concerned....

For remote temperatures, SensorPush is a good choice. If you have more than one snake, and you get their probes (one per cage) and their router, you can monitor temperatures and temperature histories over the web. Like the Herpstat, not exactly cheap, but if you're really concerned....
