State Laws

Being a bit disappointed with my state (IL), I am looking at leaving for better. Hard not to, but I would like to know what laws and difficulties are like elsewhere.
I should mention that Richardson, TX is the current location I am looking at, but still only in a topical planning stage.
Only have the one Woma Python in regards to interstate laws. I know that Texas has some rules against that.

What can you tell me about your state's laws on reptiles and exotics?

Re: State Laws

None that I know of in Virginia concerning snakes or lizards...except for the Brown Tree Snake.

Check out this site, and then go to Exotics.

Re: State Laws

None in South Dakota unless you want to collect local (non-endangered) specimens. Then you need a fishing license, of all things.

Notable exception: The city of Sioux Falls prohibits constricting snakes over 6 feet.

In my little podunk ranching town there is a blanket restriction on "dangerous animals" covering everything from bears to venomous snakes in city limits. If I wanted to keep hots I could do it on my property just north of town though as that's an unincorporated area.

Always check both city and county ordinances. A snake may be legal in your state but prohibited by your county, city... or even HOA or housing complex, come to think of it.

Re: State Laws

In Georgia we can't keep non venomous local species. So no corn snakes for me unfortunately.

Re: State Laws

Ohio has some problems with keeping native species but outside of specific localities it's the wild west here.
