probe placement using heat panel

i'm having a cage built for my dwarf retic ill be getting later this month once he /or she have grown into. the cage is 6ftx2ftx16 in. tall made of melamine. plan too get a rbi heat panel waiting for rbi rep to recommend size.

so my question is where an how is the probe placed?

do i drill a hole at back of cage mid height in center location of panel?(so if panel is 42in. an all the way too the far right side probe would be 21 inches away from the right side wall) or
do i run the probe on the far right side(panel will be on right side)?

Re: probe placement using heat panel

I generally put it about in the middle of the length of the panel as close to the floor without the snake having access to it, so basically just above the height of their hides. In the case of my PVC enclosures, they have basking shelves so I placed the probes on the underside of the shelves.

I drilled holes in the back wall, and put them in place with tape on the outside for the PVC and those little U-nails (or whatever they're called) for the wooden enclosure since tape doesn't stick to wood.
