Question Small arboreal reptiles?

Having finished my Treefrog tadpole project (all metamorphs were released back into the wild), I now have a spare 10 gallon. Now, I am fine with either snakes or lizards, But I want it to be able to be handled ( scratch the parthenogenetic geckos ) But it needs to be able to live in a ten gallon. Also, I love to make display terrariums, so preferably it would be arboreal and could live on loose substrate. Now I was considering a leopard gecko, but Some people say that they will die or get impacted on loose substrate, and others say they will be fine. So I am uncertain about this.
