Mass Hysteria

Snake bites are on the rise in US

As if common sense regarding wild animals wasn't enough knowledge to go by...

Re: Mass Hysteria

I'm not surprised to be honest mate, type in free handling venomous snakes on YouTube, and you'll see some real empty heads on there doing some really ridiculous stuff. With the disclaimer of don't try this I'm a professional. Then you have shows like Venom Hunters on TV, with a bunch of idiots running around showing bad handling practices and saying they're milking snakes for antivenom is just idiotic. Is it any wonder that the biggest percentage of snake bites in the USA are of males of a certain age, these young guys are watching these so called experts and thinking to themselves, hey I could do that. It's just as bad over here mate the number of people who come into the shop and ask do we handle the cobra, then when we say, NO, they ask why not because I saw such and such on YouTube or TV handling them, then ask can they buy her it's quite scary. I'm not saying this is the case all the time but I'm sure it contributes to the problem, I think it just seems that common sense is not that common anymore

Common sense regarding anything isn't enough anymore. Every single year I look forward to the reports out of Yellowstone Nat'l Park regarding the complete idiots who think it's a fantastic idea to get within less than 5 feet of the bison to "get a selfie"...and then wonder why they get tossed 25+ feet and injured...seriously, there are signs EVERYWHERE not to approach wildlife and yet people still manage to...
