A bit hard to understand but I would guess: have the owner take a step???

Since leads are usually around the neck, he could turn around backwards.

Country:
The dog handler's arm length added to the leash could account for the 6 ft

Of course, everyone is assuming that someone's holding the leash..... if nobody is, then the dog is free to roam any distance he wants.

Well the dog has to be at least 1 foot or more long itself, and the lead is 5 foot. So with the dog on the lead he can reach 6 foot because of his own length!! Does that make sense? I hope I got it right.

Perhaps the lead is made of elastic.
Maybe the dog is "on" (standing on) the lead but not actually attached to it.
Maybe the 6 foot marker is in a pile with the 1 to 5 foot markers at the front of the line.

I don't like this riddle.... there are a hundred possibilities that *could* all be right, but I bet none of them are.

I think the dog is just really strong and stretches the leash or maybe rips it and the leash is holding on by threads and that gives it the extra foot. Or maybe it's on one of the leashes that when it goes out you just push the button and it stops. I GOT NOTHIN'

The dog has already reached the 6ft marker because the 5ft lead and the length on the dog equal 6ft?
