New tank

Ok so a buddy at work gave me one of his Zillow snake "starter sets". 20 gal long, 2 lights domes, locking lid etc. this will only be a temp set up until I get a T8 ordered. Now I ordered a CHE tonight with a thermostat (jump start) and a control unit that measure temp and humidity...all from amazon. Now some from another forum I should use a dimmer for the CHE but if it goes directly into the tstat then what's the point?

The Jump Start will be controlling the CHE, no dimmer is needed.
