Thor - albino Cape House Snake

Got some updated pictures of Thor today. He might be going into shed here, I haven't actually seen him in blue only discover the old skin later.

Great little eater. A little jumpy/shy still. So yeah any tips on working with him or just get in there and hold him?

You could put a sock or a T-shirt of some sort in his enclosure, get him used to your scent plus provide a hiding place for him.

Or just not hold him. My snakes are ok being handled but my lizard doesn't care for it so I don't try. I enjoy instead creating the most natural environment for him I can and watching him in it. Oh and I talk to him - a lot. And he looks at me like I'm gone out

That said i rarely handle my snakes either again instead concentrating on their enclosures etc and then observing them. Don't forget we only handle for our benefit. The snake gets nothing from it.

Does he have hides in his enclosure? How long have you had him? I think it's fine to handle them once they've had a chance to acclimate for a couple of weeks and eaten a few times.

I'd like him to at least be used to handling if he needs to go to the vet

But once he's older he'll be getting a bigger more natural looking tank.

El Ziggy, yes he has three hides (it's bare only for taking the photos and so I could check on him since he hides all time) plus fake bushes. I have had him oh 3 months now and he's eaten every week so far. I haven't handled him yet but I have let him check out my hand when I am changing water/towels and he comes out to check me out. I haven't been in a rush to handle him since he's such a little guy.

Just to clarify he does have a nice covered tank with 3 hides and branches and fake plants

I just removed stuff to check on him and get pics.

Copy that Mag. If you've had him for a few months and he's eating well then go for it! He might be a little skittish at first but they usually calm down after a while. With a little time and patience he'll be putty in your hands. Best wishes.

Haha yeah he eats like a champ, even during shed. It's hard to tell when he's in blue so I offer food every week. I usually find an old skin and go "Oh he was in blue haha." I'm still getting to know his habit but I believe he hides even more when he's in blue.

Ziggy, I'm definitely expecting skittish haha. But if he can at least tolerate handling if/when he needs to go to the vet I'm not adding the extra stress of handling on top of going to the vet. But he's so cute :3

Honestly. Scooping him out used to it or not just for vet visit is going to make no difference fyi his stress levels whatsoever.

Of course it's your snake and I understand people want to handle them but getting them used to it just in case you need to deal with them in an emergency isn't necessary. If you want to handle it because you want to handle it absolutely fine - I was just throwing an alternate out there
