Need help with mangrove snake

Just got a mangrove a couple weeks ago it's obvious it was kept too dry for quite some time. It has shed once with me and it was a decent shed. I have the temp and humidity where it needs to be and hides plenty of space height and so on. Feeding is a problem tried fish and f/t mice Each week it has ate a ft fuzzy but only once. It didn't take it from tongs it seems to be scared of it with tongs it ate after I left it with the snake at night hasn't eaten sense then (10 days ago so not a big deal). Any one have any tips on getting this little guy eating normally and more interested in f/t mice ?

Hi ya mate, is the snake in a quiet area of the house with very little traffic. Mangroves are notoriously shy snakes especially when they're young and to many people moving around outside its viv will stress it out. Also most are wild caught so it might be a good idea to find a vet that can do a fecal test for you to make sure it's not full of parasites

Scent the mouse with fish. It helps my Florida Banded Water Snake when she's reluctant to take a fuzzy.

Re: Need help with mangrove snake

Fairly quite in our house in general and it is out of the high traffic areas. Due to this issue I just added more hides and put in some real plants so it has a more suitable living space. I really think it will do better. I have tried scenting but doesn't show interest in fish for some reason. I have a diamond back water snake a juvenile at that that is completely converted over to frozen thawed mice after a couple times of scenting but this guy isn't having it. How much would it cost to have the vet look at its fecal matter.

Create an Imgur account, upload you photos, the copy the 'direct link' URL into the posting area, and put image tags on both sides of the URL.

Re: Need help with mangrove snake

Those are not easy snakes to keep. Probably nothing wrong with it. Try feeding it quail, quail eggs, see if that works. Which species is it? I'm assuming here dendrophila dendrophila? How old is it/size? WC/CB? Any "Customer Support" from the breeder in case of CB?

These snakes can not go long without food. You can't "wait them out", especially not juveniles, they'll just die on you. Force feeding is very common among Boiga keepers when dealing with juveniles.

PS. move it out of high traffic area's, they stress incredibly easy.
