Shed snake

I've been meaning to get around to taking pictures of my snakes but my weather and schedule haven't been matching well. Today was still a little chilly for my snakes but I came across this wild one in my shed while I was doing yard work. He's about six feet and roughly large enough to take small rats. Very docile snake, especially given that he's in blue; he was a pleasure to work with. Put him in a bin for pictures then put him back in the shed. May he stay fat and happy eating all the field mice making a mess in my shed...

Re: Shed snake

I'm in southern Indiana... reasonably sure that it is a black rat snake. The scales aren't quite right (or head/neck transition) for the black king snake (l. nigra up this far north).

Re: Shed snake

That's probably going to be quite the pretty rat snake shed out.
