Origin of a phrase?

Just wanted to share an amusing observation of Dr. Coil this morning as he was shedding. So there he was shedding well, the old skin was snagged on a plastic plant leaf and he had about 50% of it off. As he continued to pull out of it, the old skin unsnagged suddenly and it was such a shock to Dr. Coil that he violently jumped across the tank. The result: he literally jumped out of his skin.

Full discloser: he didn't jump completely out of it, it broke in the process (he did get the rest off later though).

Re: Origin of a phrase?

My baby checkered garter snake jumps everytime he gets scared, sometimes he touches his own tail and he will literaly jump from one side of the enclosure to the other side. He's a little spook.
