Sphagnum Moss -- Mold Spores?

Anyone else have anything like mold spores growing in their sphagnum?

I'm seeing what looks like the beginning of a mold colony in my sphagnum.

Leave it...it's normal; or, Andromeda Strain...take it out!

I am not a fan of having any mold in my enclosures. Even if they are not harmfull to your snake, the spores certainly will drift outside the enclosure into your living environment waiting for the right conditions to grow. I would remove that dish of moss, clean the dish with bleach and replace the moss. That's just my two-cents worth.

I usually take out any moss that's got obvious mold on it. You can see how the rest does...often it will improve if there is enough ventilation and the humidity isn't too high.

I was going to make a humid hide using sphagnum moss. Is this a good choice or should I look for a different material to hold the moisture?

I always change my moss before it gets moldy.

Yea... unless your planning on grow penicillin, I'd toss it... I use to buy these Coconut Liner Replacement for Hanging Basket... https://www.amazon.com/Border-Concep...anging+coconut turn it upside down, cut a door, get wet and you have a moist hide... I stopped using them because I got tired of washing poop out of them and I use a humidifier for the whole room now... but all in all they weren't that bad to wash and I never saw any mold...

Try new Zealand sphagnum moss. I never have a problem with that.

Sphagnum moss is fine. I use it all the time. The key is that you cannot have it soaking wet for a long period of time. I water mine and it usually gets dry by the next day. I have not had any mold at all. Also it should be changed every 1 or 2 weeks as it can contain ammonia from the animals.
