rodentpro opinions.

i just bought 20 medium rats from them. very cheap and will be here in the next 10 days. They sell a lot of different feeders. cheaper than other website too. what are your thoughts on them?

Re: rodentpro opinions.

I'm not a fan of RP. I ordered from them a couple of times and the feeder quality wasn't the best imo. Several of the feeders were soiled and smelled strongly of urine. I normally use Perfect Prey as a primary source for f/t feeders with Big Cheese as my backup. They're competitively priced with RP and the feeder quality and packaging are better. The only advantage with RP is they sell rabbits which I'll need as some of my snakes get larger but I'll probably spend a little more and get the rabbits from Layne Labs.

Re: rodentpro opinions.

I've only bought rats from them, but I've been really happy buying from them.

Re: rodentpro opinions.

I prefer big cheese and have even found them to be cheaper sometimes, but lately they've been sold out of a lot of stuff that I need. I didn't like RP the one time I've ordered from them but I've heard they're getting better.

What about Layne Labs?

Never tied them since they're pricey in comparison to other places but I've heard good things about them

Re: rodentpro opinions.

The shipping was more than the rodents, true, but I only bought a few to see how my new friends ate before committing to the larger sizes and more of them. However, I guess that with growing snakes, like children with clothes, they outgrow what you bought them to eat and I might be tossing some.

One good thing about Layne, though it's probably the same with the others, is that the feeders came vacuum sealed in foil bags (tear top to reveal ziplock seal), packed in a taped, sealed Styrofoam container with dry ice. There was no smell from the package and all the feeders looked clean.

I seriously think those feeders would've stayed frozen for a month!

I prefer big cheese over rodentpro no doubt. I have never used Layne labs but have heard only good things.

Re: rodentpro opinions.

I started out using Layne Labs and they're great. They're the most expensive option, especially their shipping charges, but their feeder quality and packaging are top notch.

You know you don't have to toss them, they will eat a smaller meal also!

Re: rodentpro opinions.

I know that, but then how many do you feed them of the ones they've obviously outgrown?

If the snake's head is as wide as two pinky's, side by side, then do you only feet two? Four? What's the formula? Or do I have to weigh my snake each time to calculate the 10-15% snake:feeder weight ratio?

Inquiring mind...

Re: rodentpro opinions.

You could always just get a smaller snake to eat them

Like I need any more encouragement!? Once these two survive my break in period, I'm going to start looking at building a carpet enclosure...then I'll get the carpet...snake that is, swimming pools, movie stars...

(let's see who recognizes that last bit...and see who the old peeps in this forum are)

If the snake has outgrown pinkys you can feed 2-3 pinks per feeding until you finish them off. I've never given any of my snakes more than 3 prey items during a feeding.
Oh yeah and I recognize the Beverly Hillbillies jingle. What a show.
