Re: New Addition - False Water Cobra
that's a beautiful snake! Are they venomous? I've always been curious if they were.

But if anyone asks, I only have 1. The rest just showed up for the house party.

Rear fanged, and yes they are. They are considered "mildly venomous" though drop for drop the venom is comparable to timber rattlesnake. You definitely don't want to be tagged by one of these. Even though it poses no real medical significance due to the low venom yield and ineffective delivery system, you'll be in a world of pain with possible treatment or admission to hospital due to swelling, necrosis, and pain management.
I nearly got a couple of them yesterday, but I couldn't think of the proper excuse to convince my other half (fiercely against anything venomous, though she's allowing me to get some smaller Boiga now... 6 - 8 ft of FWC is still too much right now)

I'm glad you liked her. You'll have one by the summer. 2 is better than you liking none. She is one of my better snakes and not the norm. I'm happy I finally decided to get one.

Yep, rear fanged venomous. I'm going to continue to work with her so she handles well. Hope she's calm just like her mother.

Great snake! This is the next on my wish list, but that has to be a few years down the road. I can't wait to see growing pictures of it!!!

CB usually are much easier to handle/work with, though of course there are assholes in every species, lol. That's a bit more venomous than I'd feel comfortable with, though I have considered a mangrove snake if one crosses my path. Main thing with rear-fanged is not to let them chew long enough to get the venom into play.
My male Candoia shot across the tub and latched onto the back of my hand a couple weeks ago when I opened the top to feed the bugger. Didn't hurt, I just waited a minute or so for him to let go (he wasn't in any hurry) but that would have been a different matter with a FWC. Then there's the female thayeri that actually tried to eat a finger once when she was just a wee noodle, had to run cold water over her in the basement sink to get her off w/out hurting her. Again, not a situation I'd like to repeat with anything venomous regardless of how lethal.
