Breeding Spilotes Sulphurus

Spilotes (Fmr. Pseustes) sulphurus.
I was on FB when Brian Barczyk's vlog thingie popped up. I noticed a particular yellow snake in the preview. Turns out it is a yellow bellied puffing snake.
I asked in the comments where he got them, but did not mention. Only said he hoped to breed a pair. Good business practice. Thoughts?

Re: Breeding Spilotes Sulphurus

They're usually only available as imports. "Everything Spilotes" on FB is a good place to start.

Re: Breeding Spilotes Sulphurus

Good luck with your research – but frankly, there isn’t much you will be able to find about them.

I was very fortunate to find two of these snakes in June this year, I was searching for them for about three years. I got two male Spilotes sulphureus (not sulphurus), so now I am searching for a matching female. These snakes are probably even rarer here in Europe than in the US, I contacted every dealer in Germany, France and the UK who is still importing snakes, but no luck so far.

Jason Hood got some young snakes from one of his pairs, but I don’t know if he is willing to sell any of them (if there are any left at all).

The two males I got are semi-adult, they are about 180 cm long (ca. 6 ft). From all accounts I was able to find this snake might grow to 300 cm (10 ft) or even longer. My snakes are WC, but the previous owner had them for some time.

I already wrote some information about them here--> http://www.ssnakess.com/forums/gener...additions.html

and here --> http://www.ssnakess.com/forums/gener...ulphureus.html

And some new pictures

Re: Breeding Spilotes Sulphurus

Roman,
I recall your story about wanting a pair and getting 2 males instead.
I was just fishing for thoughts about the mention of this breeder having a pair. Brian is a known breeder (not liked by all, I know) and I was just curious what anyone had to say. I think you and eminart are the only ones who have much to say on these.
I am simply hoping more than a crap shoot as they are stunning animals.

Re: Breeding Spilotes Sulphurus

I watched that video the other day. I've been subscribed to his channels for years. That's the first time I've ever seen any Spilotes species at his place. I don't know if he's trying to breed them. I think he mentioned that he has begun to do a little bit of buy and sell with snakes that he didn't produce.

Re: Breeding Spilotes Sulphurus

I asked the guy in the comments and he mentioned attempting to breed them this year. We'll see.

Re: Breeding Spilotes Sulphurus

Brian gets a lot of crap from the hardcore guys because most of his videos are geared more toward novice keepers, and because he participated in that stupid, sensationalist "Venom Hunters" show on Discovery. But, I do think he genuinely cares about the animals and the hobby. Not everyone agrees with everything he does, but I think he believes he's doing the right thing. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from him if he had something I wanted.
