Vivexotic Vivarium and Humidity

Hi folks, I have 2 x 3ft Vivexotic viv's that have the new airflow system and I can't get the humidity any higher than 46%, unless I turn the thermostat off and let the viv cool down and then it will go up to 80% but then the temps come down. I have blocked the vents at the back and blocked the Airflow vents with sealant and I use unprinted newspaper as substrate.

Perhaps I can't see the wood for the trees, so any ideas folks.

My snake room is 9ft x 9ft and the room Temp is 20.5 and humidity 58%

Newsprint isn't good for holding humidity. Consider switching to something like coconut husk and that should fix your problem nicely.

Re: Vivexotic Vivarium and Humidity

I use a mix of coco coir and orchid bark. Works really well for humidity. Keeps my boa at 60-70% without daily misting.

Try and keep the ventilation as well. Stale damp air is not a good thing. A bit of fiddling and gogo get there.

Personally I think newspaper is a horrid choice. Perfectly harmless but imo does no justice to the reptiles I keep.

Hopefully as of tomorrow my boa and carpet will be going bioactive so even coco coir so be getting the boot

Re: Vivexotic Vivarium and Humidity

Cheers Danny, it just seemed strange that as the viv got colder the humidity went sky high.

Not really. Humidity is relative to temperature. As cold air is more dense it.retains more moisture for a given volume. The warmer it gets the less dense so less moisture for the same volume.
