Heating IRIS tub?

I'm looking at the IRIS 20Wx52Lx14H for a temporary enclosure until I have to build one for the new girl I'm getting at the end of the month. I plan on using flex watt for heating but the widest I find available is 12". Would a 12x24" piece give me a big enough heat area for her? I could also do a 4 or 6" x 4 to go most of the way across the back but not sure that would allow me to provide both a warm and cool hide?

Hum? I haven't heard of it being unsafe when use with a reliable thermostat. I've used it on smaller tubs and a wooden enclosure that I built and it worked great but I honestly can't remember for the life of me how I had it set up on my enclosure. It was 2 feet wide and I remember I used it side by side but don't remember exactly how. If I did it side by side I could use 3 rows of the 6" (total of 6 feet of 6" tape) which is twice the cost of using the 12", but still not cost prohibitive.

No idea where you heard that Jay...flexwatt is fine as long as a thermostat is being used...but a thermostat should be used for every heat source anyways. Maybe whoever told you/stated that didn't know how to use it properly?

@ Mother Goddess, A 12"x24" section should work just fine for the temporary enclosure.

Thanks. Wanting to get everything ordered and running in the next week or so. Have a friend going to Atlanta so I can have him purchase it and hooked up without needing to pay shipping.
