Herping in your own backyard?!

Or your garage? LOL

This little guy came to greet me when I opened the garage to get into my house.

We have a lot of wildlife at our house, with woods in the back and a creek in the woods.

This time it was just a common brown snake, but who doesn't think he's cute?

Re: Herping in your own backyard?!

The usual suspects around here are rat snakes, Eastern King snakes, brown snakes, midland water snakes (we had one named Tattoo), blue tailed skinks, and all kinds of cool insects (they grow unusually large in the south)

I will update with more soon...

Yes, that's it! Thanks for leading me in the right direction Bob

We have two subspecies here. This one with the diamond pattern is called the midland brown snake, or Storeris Dekayi Wrightorum.
(Yes, I just looked it up) haha

Love the patterning! Sucks that the species isn't readily available in the hobby. Seems like the perfect snake for invert hobbyists like me who don't want to deal with mice.

That's cool. I find Lined Snakes, Tropidoclonion lineatum, in my backyard all the time. It's awesome how well they do in suburban environments. Apparently Storeria are pretty popular in Europe, which is weird. I think there's someone on here that keeps them.

Cute! Here in Montana we have garters, rattlers, bull snakes, rubber boas and I'm sure others but those are the 4 I can think of and have seen off the top of my head
