Yeah he is always a little too energetic at feeding time. Definitely going to be one to watch out for as an adult since he loses his mind when its about food!

Re: Quail
Haha! Treasure is a little scary at feeding. I need longer tongs!
I don't know what it was about this week, but everyone had crazy feeding respinses! My usually 'light' feeder, super sweet female hoggie threw a FIT. Hissed and junped up at me and did her meanest cobra impersonation and musked somethong AWFUL! I just dropped the rat pup and ran. She settled down and ate, but MAN her musk was off the charts! And she's NEVER done that before! The other female about got my fingers too. No idea what got into them!

Re: Quail
My ipad broke so I didn't have my app that shows me who needs to eat. So I just waited for it to get fixed before feeding anyone. Pretty much everyone needed to eat when I got it back Tuesday. Feeding was definitely interesting last night. Believe it or not the ones with barely any feed response were the retics. I seem to have some lazy butt retics.
lol thats what I do when I fed my big boa. I just toss it and close the door. She is so smart she waits ready to strike right at the center where the sliding glass doors meet. That why she has you no matter which one you open luckily she doesn't always do that but if I'm late feeding shes ready and waiting for me!

Re: Quail
Way to mix it up on the critters diets Riddick. Nice pics too. I'm a big fan of offering different prey items. I haven't tried quail yet but my snakes usually get rats, mice, chicks and asfs. My kings are a little finicky when it comes to rats but all the other snakes will eat anything I offer.

Re: Quail
My platinum male gets chicks, mice and rats at this point. If I had gotten a smaller size he probably would have eaten the quail too.
My king eats everything I offer. He has had chicks, mice, rats, quail, and if given the chance he would eat another snake no problem. Not sure I want to offer him snakes...can't imagine what a pain he would be about the smell of the other snakes and biting.
I got rabbits for my big boa girl finally. She has been on rats only for a long time so I'm curious if she will go for it or not.

Re: Quail
That's good the quail seemed to go over well. I just started offering some of my snakes chicks. So far it's been mixed reviews.

For chicks my black milk, beautys and king like them. My corns eat anything so they have had any of the refusals for the chicks.
I haven't tried the carpet on any chick or quail yet but I should probably try. He is always looking for food so I'm sure he would take them. I don't offer the birds all that often since I don't order a lot of them when I get them. Gets a little expensive trying to keep a varied diet for everyone lol
I have read that beautys eat a lot of birds in the wild so I'm offering birds more often to them.

Re: Quail
I feed day old chicks to some of my snakes, the madagascar hognose will eat them unscented which is nice. I've read elsewhere that snakes have less desirable muscle tone if fed a bird only diet but I'm only feeding them at 20-50% of any snake's diet.

I really got the chicks as a trial run for the Spilotes and Gonyosoma. Neither of which showed any interest in them. So far the only snakes that readily accept them or my Dumerils and Cribo. I'll try them again tomorrow and see if I can get any other takers. I'm fairly sure my VBB would eat them if she were large enough.
