Solara Update!
Hey all....we need a Pits specific area since these guys seem to be spreading among members! Haha!
That being said, here is a little update on the cape gopher girl I recently aquired. When I got her she was pretty thin. So thin that her head looked weird and lumpy and she had perhaps an overly 'defined' neck area.
Well, several meals and poops later, she is looking muuuuch better now! With the added weight I expect a shed soon.
For those who have pits....Do they have a higher metabolism? I feed my girl 2 small rats at a time and they are GONE after 24 hours as such she has been fed twice a week. She is active and has given healthy poops but still packs the rats away and is ready for more within a day!
Here are some pics to show her not as sunken in. =)

They're eating and crapping machines, Logan. Looking much more proportionate now! Good stuff.

Oh my! Lol
All well. So long as she's healthy and I can afford it, I'll be all too happy to have a snake I can feed more often lol.
Also, thanks Dave!

Re: Solara Update!
What is her age roughly? Two smalls a week or even a medium every 7-10 days would definitely suffice if she's 3 years old or so (once she's up to weight).

Re: Solara Update!
Mink- Solara is looking great! I like her name too. I think pits do have a higher metabolism than your average colubrid and they are monsters at feeding time. They will definitely eat more than they should if you let them. I fed my young bulls every 5 days as hatchlings. Every 7 days as yearlings and now they eat every 10-14 days. Keep thepics coming!

Re: Solara Update!
No info on age. She's not quite 3 feet long though. I think a medium would be too big for her right now though.

Re: Solara Update!
Thanks Ziggy! I was waiting for you to comment!
I am feeding her twice a week until she fills out, then will back her off to once a week for sure. Just want to get her bulked up a bit first. She has no complaints about this so far

Re: Solara Update!
Very pretty snake. I don't know about that first photo; those toes could easily be mistaken for nice fresh pinkies

Re: Solara Update!
I'd say she's more than 3', my baby bull is just about that length now. Easy to tell, he's in a 30 long aquarium and head-to-tail reaches all the way across the front. He's eating weaned mice and the occasional rat pink, and will be out cruising around a day or two after feeding looking for more. I don't feed more often than every 5 days though, he's looking on the plump side but growing so fast I can't imagine he's actually fat yet, lol.

Re: Solara Update!
Haha. Well, I believe I have secured another 3x2x1 PVC enclosure (thank you craigslist!) which should arrive this saturday if the guy doesn't flake on me. So she will be going in that.
Also, I just feed as theu need. She's underweight so shell be fed until she's filled out some more. I offered her 2 ASFs last night and she only ate one, so that's all she'll get until I feed her again in few days. If she only wants 1 then as well, cool.will save me feeders lol.
She left another pretty massive poo for me yesterday as well. As much as I'd like to put her on a substrate soon, if she keeps pooping like this, she will stay on paper towels lol.
