herping over the weekend
so i got to go this weekend over the holiday. I decided to explore 2 semi close counties to me that i rarely visit. I didn't find to many critters but a few herps are better then not finding any when exploring new places.
1 red elf - just crossing a path trying to get somewhere
2 A beautiful red belly
3 green frog
4 well hidden eastern garter
5 a yellow phase crotalus horridus , with a very large scar oh her face from a past battle. maybe from a meal fighting back?

Re: herping over the weekend
Great pics! Love them, especially the first snake photo. Super pretty colors!
I haven't found any critters this year but that's likely related to me bringing my dogs into the woods with me. I feel too guilty to leave them home when I'm heading out to the woods.

Re: herping over the weekend
Thanks! yes i love red bellies they can vary so much in color! my favorite natural morph is the black belly red belly lol. This one had a red belly and appeared to be gravid so i didn't bother her to long for pics.
Yes sometimes i do feel guilty for not taking the dog with me so i know where you are coming from on that.

Re: herping over the weekend
Thanks! They are pretty common here in my state in the right habitat. They are one of my favorite. Their colors both back and belly widely vary from snake to snake. My favorite morph is the black belly red belly lol
