Does anyone remember this bizarre news story?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_N..._python_attack

Maybe this was discussed when it first occurred but I thought I would throw it out there again to see you you guys think. I remember when I first saw it on the news I immediately thought something was strange... what about you guys? Does anyone think this would have actually been possible? I think the coroner blew it when he labelled cause of death to be asphyxiation rather than circulatory arrest.

It's a pretty crazy chain of events that led to an unfortunate ending. Not sure what to make of the whole thing. I'm sure it's possible for the python to somehow construct both boys at the same time. I do find it hard to believe that after crashing through the ceiling the boys didn't get startled, spring out of the bed and see the snake.

Re: Does anyone remember this bizarre news story?

I live in New Brunswick so am pretty familiar with the case.

It's unfortunate for everyone involved. We have some odd laws for exotics (emerald tree boas are legal but green tree pythons are not, green iguanas are illegal, dwarf hamsters are illegal) we have a list of "allowed" exotics and anything not on the list is not legal.

African Rock Pythons are not legal but this one was given to him by the Moncton SPCA: "The snake had originally been dropped off at Moncton, N.B. SPCA in 2002, and was delivered to Mr. Savoie by Environment Canada officials who could not find an alternative location to house the animal." ( Snake owner arrested 18 months after python killed two young brothers in New Brunswick | National Post )

I feel really bad for the guy, the mother of the kids, the kids involved, the animals involved. From what I've heard from people who knew the guy he had really great set ups and it was just a really unfortunate series of events. I didn't know him personally. One thing I saw mentioned was that the boys had no bite wounds, but I was recently told by someone who's friend new the owner of the reptile that the boys did sustain bite(s). But I have no proof of that.

He's set to go to trial end of September and could face life imprisonment.

Re: Does anyone remember this bizarre news story?

Oh ya I definitely feel bad for the people and animals involved. Especially those who lost their life.. I.e. The boys and the snake. I remember hearing about the no bite marks either... There are so many strange details about the whole thing. I have never heard of a snake constricting something without biting it at the same time.

I guess we'll have to wait and see what he gets charged with (if anything), I do remember talking to an RCMP officer about it a few weeks after it happened and he had told me he heard it was being investigated as a homicide.

Re: Does anyone remember this bizarre news story?

It almost sounds like the snake fell on top of the boys and crushed them instead of actually constricting them? If the snake and debris from the ceiling fell on their chests, it could have caused asphyxiation. Which would explain why they boys didn't jump at the ceiling falling down, the circulatory arrest, lack of bite wounds, ect. I assume the ceiling didn't fall open directly above where they were found since they didn't consider that a possibility? Unless I missed something when I read it.

Re: Does anyone remember this bizarre news story?

Supposedly there were bite wounds. Mind you this is from a friend, from a friend from the guy who was charged. I have no proof of it. More details may be released when he goes to court maybe?
