Hi all,
So yesterday we Skyped my step brother in France, and he has a pet ball python and frillie. And his BP recently turned twenty-one year old! Hearing that made me really happy, because it's not until you hear how long they can live that you realise how many happy years you'll have with your slithery companion!
Cheers,
Herpo

Re: 21
Not many people hang onto their pets that long, but it really is encouraging! I hope to enjoy full lives with all my snakes.
With any luck, your brother's bp could get another 20 years or more!

Re: 21
Same, I hope for a long and happy life with Popeye! And wow BSG, another 20 years! Another reason for possible keepers to really be sure they can care for their pet!

Re: 21
She's not friendly with other snakes though. Killed a male BP he tried to breed her with, and a corn snake she was housed with when he didn't know you shouldn't do that!

Re: 21
That's what I'm hoping for too. Long, healthy, happy lives for all of us, our families, friends, and critters.

Aaaaaaah! >w< I'm hoping this is me and Ghost someday. I got her as a hatchling for my first snake so I could watch her grow up and all. Someday we'll both be old and chillin' on the couch watching cartoon reruns together.
That's so cool. I was a skeptic about getting into reptiles when I first started reading about it because I didn't think they lived real long (for some reason) and then learned later that they can live lifespans up by dog years sometimes. It was one of the reasons I got into it then. ^^

Yeah, it's great! I used to keep stick insects and praying mantids (among other inverts), and they're short lifespans of 18mnths max mean I'm always checking on Popeye to see if he's alright lol.
And same, I hope to one day sit on the couch with Popeye and be able to see him as the beast he will hopefully become.

Re: 21
I'd never want to give up mine unless i was forced too. When i buy a snake, im agreeing to take care of him to the best of my ability till the day he dies, and thats exactly what i plan on doing

Exactly! I think the record was something like 48 years, but I've heard of older. Just not sure on that.

Given proper care and the luck to avoid any accidents/illnesses, snakes can live several times longer than a dog. That's why I love them so much! They live a long time, but they don't live long enough to outlive you (generally).
Your corn probably won't live as long as a ball python, but corns can get a good 20 years at least.

Re: 21
Excellent. I always enjoy hearing this. I saw a YouTube video with a guy that had a 28 year old male green anaconda. And If I can this case study I stumbled upon documenting some field biologist's record of a 52 year old rubber boa, I'll put it up. I am in my 34th year with my Hispaniolan Boa, Rudy. So, good job with the ball.

Re: 21
Great to know that he's had so many years! A year and a half ago, we had a western rat snake (Texas phase) pass away who was WC and had been in captivity for 23 years. On top of that, he was a full-grown adult when he was taken into captivity.
