reptifogger

my dtr who is the lizard queen, just bought a reptifogger by zoo med. it looks like a great idea but there's no mention on the box if it would work for a snake in a tank. has anyone ever tried to use this for a snake? i'd sure be happy if it would work for mac.

I don't have any experience with the reptifogger, but from what I've heard about it they are primarily for amphibians and are used to create super high humidity levels (around 80%) if you want to increase humidity you can mist your snakes bedding or use a humid hide (cut a hole in a plastic container big enough for your snakes to crawl in, make sure you smooth the edges and then put damp paper towels or moss inside to create humidity. The snake will use it as he needs and it will help to increase the tank humidity a little.)

The only snakes I can think of who may at all benefit from a fogger is say a rainbow boa who need very high humidities.

Other than that I suspect they'd do more harm than good..

I've said it before many times but imo people worry far too much about humidity. Sure it's important to a point and I monitor mine to be on the safe side but if the snake is eating, shedding and pooing fine and is not spending prolonged periods of time soaking in its water dish then there is a very high chance the humidity is ok.

If the snake is behaving oddly, sheds are getting stuck etc then investigate such things.
