Setting up VIV for my BRB

Hey guys so here is what I got going on at the moment. I was able to pick up a brand new 40G breeder for 15 bucks a couple months back. I am now at a point where I want to do a natural VIV for my female BRB. Thing is I am having a hard time deciding what top to get. I could get a screen top and seal up the screen with some spray rubber or get a glass top.

The issue here is how I am going to be doing my lighting. If it was going to be glass holes were going to get drilled and bulb holders mounted to the top of the glass. If it was going to be sealed screen then holes were going to be made and the same thing was going to be done. I am also going to add a small water area that will drain from the bottom of the tank, get filtered, and then come back into the tank by some kind of water fall.

The question here is I cannot decide on what top. A glass top that is premade is impossible for me to find in the right size which would mean that I have to make my own. The only glass that is available to me is from the local hardware store and is only 3/32 inch thick. Which is really thin.

So I need ideas from you guys on what to do that would be cheap. I have everything else to do what I want to do, so no money is going to be spent building the inside the way I want it built. So give me some inexpensive top Ideas please!!! Also what kind of soil is used inside the tanks for the live plants? Thanks for any help you guys can offer!

Re: Setting up VIV for my BRB

You could use plexiglass or acrylic other then glass, cheaper and easier to work with. As far as plants go... Typically it doesn't work with a large heavy bodied constrictor like a brb, she will likely crush and uproot the plants while trying to burrow. Also the amount of light it would take to grow plants will stress out your boa. I'm not saying that it can't be done the water section is actually a good idea but the rest is just not practical. If you are really adement about this you will need to get a bigger cage, the key is to have a big cage with lots of substrate... even then I don't know if it will work, plants just don't like snakes lol.
