Incubation temps???

Hello all,

I have a question in regards to incubator temps. With Hognose breeding just around the corner I want to make sure I have everything set for incubation. I have made a incubator from a wine cooler, everything is set and ready to go. My question is.. Hognose eggs are incubated @80-84 degrees. Should ambient air and thermostat be set at around those temps or should the inside of the container be at those temps? I did a practice run for a couple days with thermostat set @83 degree but inside my S.I.M. container was at 79-81 degrees measured with a thermometer. I would appreciate your input from you experience breeders.

Congrats on your diy incubator! Firstly I would ask what type of thermometer was giving you that reading? Secondly, sometimes you do have to increase the temperature setting of the thermostat to effect the proper temperature in the egg tub.

Thanks for reply. I was using a herpstat basic but unsure if I may possibly use my helix for incubator. I may give the helix a trial run and see what works best for me. So you are saying to measure the Temps inside egg tubs?

By the way the probend from thermostat is taped to top of incubator hanging. Herpstat probe is not in tub.

Always measure the temp exactly where the eggs are. 80-84 is definitely ideal for these guys, don't let it get higher or you may get kinks. It is ok if it drops a couple degrees below this, it will only lengthen incubation time by a few days. How do you find the SIM containers? I got out of the hobby for a while right around the same time that Gregg launched them. Used to use the good old light diffusers for these guys.

OH! LOL... Honestly this will be the first time using them but they are well made container. I know you can make your own as you show in your pictures but these are solid. I havent really seen any new threads on them for a while. I will definitely post pictures when the eggs are cooking (not literally).

Red Albino X Red het albino 13 eggs 3 slugs
Snow X Anaconda het snow 10 eggs no slugs

I'm also waiting on a 500g Red albino anaconda to lay. She is huge, she was paired to an extreme red male. Next year will be interesting with my pairing. I will be pairing my extreme red male albino to an Arctic het albino, Albino to a 100% het Sable and undecided if I will pair my female Lavender to an albino or to my male het Lavender. I was also thinking Lavender to het sable.
