Hey guys/gals. I'd picked up a house snake at the reptile show when I'd bought my albino gopher. For reasons unbeknownst to me it's a snake I've been very interested in since seeing a couple Youtube videos.

I've pretty much left him alone for 3 weeks since he's so squirmy and nippy when I first got him home. After a bit of squirming he settled in for a curious but calm handling this morning. I love their little python face and he seems to gotten over his nipping. Though they're a bit spastic and can shoot out of your hands easily. I almost think it's easier to handle fully grown snakes haha.

I'm not sure if it's common with house snakes, but he hits food harder off the tongs than any of my other snakes. Does me good to see a critter that eats so well! He's having a bit of trouble with his current shed, despite daily mistings and his favorite hide with some damp eco earth. Though the eye caps and head scales came in one piece so no worries.

Anyways, despite his constant wiggling I got a couple pictures. I really look forward to him growing out a bit.

I really like those little guys, but I've never actually seen one in all the expos I've been to.

This is one of the few snakes that I adore as an albino! I have been interested In them a while too for no real reason. Sadly, they are super low on mt 'want' list.

Absolutely! All green and such. IF I were to get one, it would definitely be an albino =)

Haha thanks guys, I also like the albinos....perhaps I'll get him a albino girlfriend later down the line

House snakes are great! They're like tiny pythons. The feeding response you described is pretty typical, and is one of the traits that attracts a lot of snake keepers.

If you do get a female down the road, I've heard these guys are incredibly easy to breed! It's basically impossible to not get eggs if you put a male and female together

It's such an awesome species. They are always ready to eat. I read an article many years ago where a keeper offered his house snake as many different items to see what it would eat. I think it ate a bat once.

As for breeding, they are really easy to breed but they do come with a "trick". Many people have bred house snakes, got lots of locks but no eggs. What's been discovered is that they have subspecies and each one has to be bred by it's own to be viable. So albino house snakes are specific to one subspecies. Might be the cape, I am not too sure.

Do some digging and I'm sure you'll find out.

Great to see it's a species that's so well received ! He's getting more confident since that handling and for the first time I saw him outside of his hide using a small branch to chill on. I'll def. look into the breeding idiosyncrasies for these guys

Brown House Snakes are quite easy to breed and here in their home country, they have been known to produce eggs 4 times in one year.
They very easily double clutch as well.

They are rather reknowned for that feeding response.
