Dwarf Monitors....anybody have one?

Hey guys I'm interested if anyone keeps some of the smaller monitors like the Ackies or Storr's monitors. I work with Savannah and Nile monitors at a reptile shelter and just really enjoy their personality and intelligence. But I would only own one if I had a large area to keep a suitable enclosure.

It seems like these dwarf monitors are a great compromise. I'm looking for some personal experiences or any pointers to keeping these critters. I reckon I'm still a year or two off from getting into one, but I'd like to go ahead and get my ducks in a row. All the best.

Semper Fi,
Derek G

If you attempt to handle them whats the result? Is it stress or bites? What is the size of the enclosure you have them in? I really want another varanid Im just debating on what species.

Dwarf monitors for the most part are great except for maybe some of the arboreal ones like peacock and timors, their just high strung animals that get stressed easily. Storr, ackies, Kimberly rocks... the list goes on and on all the Australian dwarf monitors make good choices just be prepared to pay a bit more for them

Ackies are awesome! I have a yearling yellow and she is just starting to mellow out. They make very interesting pets. Mine is always out basking, chasing crickets and digging tunnels. They are hardy and easy to set up too! Most of the adult breeders that my friend keeps are super chill. I suppose that is relative to how much you interact with them. Here is a pic when I first got her. She has probably doubled in sized and is now fearless!
