enclosure size for large male BCI
I have a large male boa constrictor. He's now exactly 8 feet long and weighs 10 kilos. I doubt he will get much bigger as he is 6 years old. Is a 5x2x2 vivarium a good size or should I go bigger? He used to be very active but now he's matured he doesn't move about much most of the time. Thanks

That's fine. You could go bigger and it will almost certainly be utilized, but that size will be plenty.

Re: enclosure size for large male BCI
That's a just a tad bit small for an 8' boa. You want a cage where Length+Width is equal to or greater than the snake's length. I'd go up to a 6'x2' or larger if possible, I'm sure it's enough space as it is, but adding another foot to the length could be beneficial.
Although boas are fairly sedentary, they don't usually just sit in one place 24/7 unless something about their environment or feeding is off. Mine used to be the same way as your's, I'm not sure what triggered it but now he's out and about all the time again. He'll lay out in the open during the day, and climbs around at night. I'm assuming it's either because he's in a snake room without much foot traffic, or it's the new place/smells.

Re: enclosure size for large male BCI
Thanks for the responses. That confirms what I was thinking. I'll go for a 6x2x2 after I've got married! Can't afford it right now, but in a few months .....

Re: enclosure size for large male BCI
Would a 60x30x24 (length x depth x height) be Ok for my 8 ft male? That would give slightly more floor space than 72x 24 (inches). Thanks, John

Re: enclosure size for large male BCI
Personally I'd go 72, having the extra length to go in one direction longer vs going in smaller circles.

It would be more square floor area, but 72x24 has more length to it than 60x30. 72+24=97, 60+30=90, so I'd personally go with 72x24.

I also vote of the 72x24. That is what I have for my 8ft male boa. While he hardly moves, I know he does and he stretches out when he does. If I had the space and money right now, I would even bump him up to a 96x24 or 96x36cage. But that is just me personally.

Thanks for your responses. 72x24 wins!
