Styrofoam Hide I've been working on

Been fooling around with the whole foam and grout decorations and this hide is my first attempt. Shaping just done with a hot wire and after 3 layers of grout I finished with some air brushing. The tree could be a little brighter, but meh the snake won't care. Fun project

Awesome! This is something I want to do when I have my house as well! Hopefully I'll even be able to make custom peices for paying enthusiasts! But for now.....tiny apartment x.x

Nice! It's nearly impossible to find any kind of naturalistic hides for larger snakes to purchase, so creativity is a must! Looks like a fun project!

I tried to make some of these a few years back but it was no where near as nice as this

I had a good bit of fun making them. I made a couple water bowls as well but they didn't turn out exactly like was expecting since the grout fills in all the details. If you want to keep smoother lines go for unsanded grout, but for rock texture the sanded stuff works very nicely. Next time I hope to have a bit more definition, but we'll see

Looks cool! Styro and grout is so fun to work with, and waaaay cheaper than anything from a pet shop. What kind of paint did you go with?

Thanks Panda! I used some acylic hobby paint from Hobby Lobby just thinned down a bit with either water/windex and shot through my air brush. For less than a dollar per bottle you can go in with $20 and get enough colors to handle anything You could do it just fine with a paint brush but I'm a pretty crap artist so the air brush is easier for me to create color gradient with.

If you're a real cheapo you can use a plastic spray bottle as an airbrush.
