Carpet ID?

This beauty is being boarded at a local pet store. Pretty massive compared to the smaller snakes I'm used to. I have zero info on it since it was not for sale, but to me it looks almost just like my IJ female, just....big....lol

Re: Carpet ID?

I know it's hard, because there are so many crosses over there, but it looks a lot like a coastal to me, or possibly a jungle. How long do you think it is, Minkness?
Can you get a head shot?

Re: Carpet ID?

Those are the only pics I have and won't be going back for a while due to work schedule. I am not good at guessing length yet, especially when curled up in a ball. Whatever it was, it was beautiful and big, and I feel very happy I have a carpet in my life. =)

How long does it usually take a carpet (who is properly cared for and fed every 5-7 days) to reach full size?

Re: Carpet ID?

5 years or so is when i consider medium sized pythons adult (The real giants i would say 6-7 years), however i don't think you will be feeding it every week still at that age? (at-least i'm hoping you wont) Absolutely no idea on the carpet ID, not my area of expertise!

Re: Carpet ID?

Well my little girl is still pretty tiny lol. So yes, she gets fed a mix of mouse fuzzies (soon to be hoppers probably) and rat pinks. She is not a picky eater thankfully =)

I guess I lookforward to maintenance feeding when they all grow up lol. I have alot of babies/juvies. The oldest snake I have is my male bp who is about 2 years old I believe. I should probably start maintenance feesing him soon.....I'll need to weigh him again. Last I chexked he was almosy 900 grams....perhaps I should start a new thread about maintenance feeding for him....

Re: Carpet ID?

Adulthood about 2 to 3 years, but full size about 4 or 5. Without power feeding her, you could probably up her feed size, and stretch it out to 10 days between feeds.

Re: Carpet ID?

Eh.....I dunno how I feel about that with her still being so young/small. To me she's still a growing baby. I feed her once a week 2 rat pinks (on saturday) and if she seems overly active between feedings, she gets a mouse fuzzy since I know they are less fatty, but it seems to keep her content until her next real meal.

Re: Carpet ID?

That is a good looking and pretty big carpet Mink. It looks like a cross of some sort to me too. How old and how large is your IJ? I think we got our carpets around the same time. My jungle was hatched on 7/30/15 so he's 3.5 months old. He's probably 60g and he's eating rat fuzzys. I started him on mouse hoppers but they're really too small. I have to give him 2-3 of those as opposed to 1 rat fuzzy so it's a pain but I bought 50 of them and I don't want to waste them. I'm feeding my guy every 5-7 days too. I'll probably scale him back to every 7-10 days when he turns one. Like you, I'm looking forward to watching them grow into beautiful healthy adults.

Re: Carpet ID?

Mine is an irian jaya though, supposedly one of the smalleat carpets? Sadly because it was a trade in to the store I got her from, they didn't have too much info on her other than her 'suppose' blood line and gender.

Here are some pics of her. Sheis kept in a standard 15 gallon tank with reptibark, coconut hide, and a branchy climb thing that she apends most of her time on. She is eating a small mouse fuzzy in that last pic for a size reference. Amd she always eays wjile hanging down like that lol. I would pull her out and weigh her tonight, but she just ate 2 rat pinks last night.

Also...she has a name!!! (Finally...lol)

Meet, Persephone! And later when I get a jaguar male, I will have to name him Hades lol.

Re: Carpet ID?

She's a beauty Mink. Your enclosure looks nice too. I need to add some foliage to mine. I love carpets. They're a lot of fun to keep and watch.

Re: Carpet ID?

Thanks =)

I admit, Persephone has really got me loving carpets, so, once I can get more snakes again (after I buy a house) My collection will probably double lol. I know I want a super caramel and a jag, and red bredlies are nice too lol. But I also want more BPs (banana and a BEL) and hog island boas....omg...i need to stop....the list keeps growing lol!

The eventual plan is to be a small hobby breeder though. Soooo...yeah lol

Re: Carpet ID?

While I can admire them, and see why people like them, I personally don't like jags. Pure all the way for me. We have coastals, jungles, Murray Darlings, Darwins (albinos and ordinary), and Gammon Ranges. As well as spotteds, and a BHP.
