Scarface-Almandine Baby Profiles (2015-A)

(Note this post is best viewed in threaded layout, where available.)

Living Gems Reptiles is pleased to finally profile the babies from its 2015 “A” litter.

Born on September 2, 2015 to Scarface (a July 2008 male noted for his almost perfect side patterns)…

Sire

…and Almandine (a July 2008 female noted for her strong orange-red color)…

Dam

…this litter represents the second pairing of these strong breeders.

How strong?

In 2013, they produced this amazing high orange youngster (baby, current)…

…*and* this amazing high red youngster (baby, current)…

…all in the same clutch.

I fully expect this new litter will have just as much potential.

As with the prior litter, the 26 babies in this new one seem to have inherited the best of both Mom and Dad. Several of them picked up and even enhanced their mother’s minor dorsal chaining. A few of them have a slight “blushing” effect where the color gets slightly darker in the center. All of them picked up their father’s consistent side crescents, with only a third of them having more than three departures from this norm (and even those no more than six or seven).

All except one have now shed twice, eaten three to five times, and had “confirmation” their digestion is properly working. As has been outlined in previous posts, all of these babies come from a disease-tested facility.

As with all LGR litters, we’ve done dozens of handling sessions for each baby, part of our commitment to start acclimating them to humans.

Over the following posts, please find a short profile of every baby in the litter. For each, a short description is provided, noting any behavioral or physical quirks, along with a selection of photos showing their development over the first two sheds. For dorsal chains, “short” means two to three linked spots, and “long” mean four or more.

So grab a cup of your favorite brew, sit back, relax, and enjoy!

Thank you as always,

Baby #01 (Female)

This cute little lady has five short dorsal chains on her back. Her dorsal spots are relatively tightly packed. Her sides consist of 100% thick rich crescents, one of only three babies in the litter with perfect pattern. At first she liked to shyly hide under her drawer’s bottom liner, but now hangs out on top like her siblings.
