Re: need help with names for new ratsnake
Awww so cute and small! I remember when my Arty was that small too <3 And yeah they are really inquisitive and curious about everything.
As for names... I'm having hunting-related god theme for my russians, Artemis, Orion and Callisto The first two are also the names of characters in one of my favourite book series. And considering their feeding response the hunting related names are really good, hahaah

Re: need help with names for new ratsnake
I thought about naming her Natasha and then if I get a male it would be Boris, from those old Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons I used to hate. But not sure if that is stereotyping maybe tasteless.
BTW I do like your names they are awesome. Im horrible at naming things, we had a cat for 16yrs named orange cat cause she was orange.

Re: need help with names for new ratsnake
How about Raspooter? I would suggest Rasputin (the mad monk) but not a great name for a female.

I'm terrible with names too, my russians are the only one named "normal" names, the rest is "the white" "redhead" "the big gecko" "the small gecko"... well, okay my dog has a name too, but he was from dog shelter so was already named
Boris is great but i personally don't like Natasha too much... See here, maybe something will catch your eye https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...ogical_figures Mythological related names are great, as there is sooo many of them in the world, that you'll never be left without something to choose. The same for favourite character from books/movies etc.

LOL, Raspooter.
Im amazed at how she is out for some of the day and still so new. She isnt shy at all, I fed her a thawed hopper and she took it so calmly...
Have you seen the you tube video of a Russian eating a baby chick and the chick is alive and doesnt seem to know its being eaten because the russian is so calm about it..Its horrifying yet mesmerizing.

Re: need help with names for new ratsnake
Hahaha, glad you're liking her. They are really nice snakes but rather underestimated as they are not having a lot of fancy morphs like corns or balls.

Re: need help with names for new ratsnake
They don't need fancy morphs because their normal morphs are so gorgeous! I agree that a name from mythology would be good. They always sound cool Maybe Athena? Something strong and feminine at the same time...
I name my snakes after scientists(real or fictional), spiders after video game characters, and other animals after cartoon characters. I name all my electronics too, usually after movie/TV characters.

Re: need help with names for new ratsnake
Sounds very much like my baby Kunashir rats, surprisingly calm when handled and active most of the time they're awake. Probably the only reason I haven't already tracked down a Russian rat, lol. How old is she? Looks bigger than my yearling DRMB's were when they arrived last year, about the same girth they are now at 2 years old.

Re: need help with names for new ratsnake
Huh, from the pics I guess that she's around 1,5 year... am I right?
And toddnbecka, we can make a trade, I'll send you one Russian, and you'll send me one Kunashir, hahaha

Re: need help with names for new ratsnake
Fantastic looking rat snake! Congrats. Nice that she's taking meals so quickly. Name her Ratilda. It's a combo of the species and a feminine name. Haha.

Re: need help with names for new ratsnake
I'm not sure of the age. But judging by cornsnake sizes I would say around 1 and a half as well, maybe two but I can only go by the corns and how fast they grow.
I like Athena I may just use that. I will try it for awhile and see if it sticks.
I have more problems naming females then males.

Re: need help with names for new ratsnake
Our male snakes are called Mojo, Bozo, Spencer, Chester and Dante. We have one more, but now we think he's a female, so he doesn't count.
Btw, your little snake is very cute.

Re: need help with names for new ratsnake
I'm kinda in the same boat....I have two full grown Texas rat snakes....the first one I caught as a baby and named it Oscar.....about 8 or 9 years later....he...cough cough....layed eggs....just caught a full grown one a few months ago....so I named it Felix....(an odd couple indeed)...
So...just recently caught a baby....and don't know what to call it....

Oops! Was too tired last night, didn't realize yours is a girl, so I listed male names. Here are some girl names: Zoey, Ally, Casey, Bobbi, Athena, Dumdum, Lilou, Pixie, Missy, Skye, Gracie.
