My 1 yr old Retic seems to be Wheezing
She has always has somewhat of a wheeze, but I'm wondering since the wheezing or perhaps she's just breathing normal and I'm worried about nothing..
It's not a sporadic sound, she seems to breathe normal and doesn't appear to be distressed.
Should I take her in for her yr check up just to be safe or do the relics just breathe hard n loud?
Aloha,
Scott

Re: My 1 yr old Retic seems to be Wheezing
Just gonna ask the basics. Temps, humidity? Wheezing to my knowledge can be a sign of possible RI. Vet checkup may not be idea. However, are you sure this wasn't just an "hiss"? Just an loud exhale?

Re: My 1 yr old Retic seems to be Wheezing
Not sure how big she is, but the big snakes tend to wheeze/hiss when they breathe, just because of how big they are. Being a year old, it's probably 5'-7' if I had to guess so not big enough for that type of breathing, but it could be due to exerting its muscles. My snakes sometimes wheeze when they're doing something like climbing up something or squeezing something too tightly.
Does it do it all the time? Any gaping? Any mucus or redness of the gums?

^^This. My 3.5' SD "wheezes" when he's unhappy about me touching him or getting him out, but its not quite a hiss. Or if he squeezes tightly. What are your enclosure details?

Re: My 1 yr old Retic seems to be Wheezing
It seems to be on her exhale. Temp average is 75-90 degrees f. Depending on what end of the tank. Humidity, 65-85. Depending on how full her basin is and if I've just misted or not. No sinus discharge or sinus bubbles. Maybe a checkup wouldn't hurt. She will be 1 year sometime next month. October. So the seller said.

Re: My 1 yr old Retic seems to be Wheezing
I haven't taken her for a checkup yet, but I think it's from being handled initially even though she continues to appear to be wheezing, I'm sure now after your replies that she's fine. She must just get excited when I remove her from her home even though I handle her everyday.

I got her on January 11, 2015 after I went to the Pamona Reptile Convention.

Re: My 1 yr old Retic seems to be Wheezing
I'm looking forward to breeding her after she's matured and I've found the right male, but not knowing exactly what she is makes it hard to chose a male Retic as her mate. If only there were a way to identify if she's normal or a morph and what sort of morph...

Re: My 1 yr old Retic seems to be Wheezing
If you've had her that long and there are no sign of bubbles or drool imo I would say it's just her normal breathing, my girl done this as a hatchling. But if your still not happy or for your of peace of mind you could still get her checked with a vet. And did vendor you bought her off not tell you what she was?. Post a photo of her here one of the retic people on here will be able to help you out mate, I'm pretty new to retics myself and unless she was an albino or something like that I would be pretty useless to you

If she was sold to you as a normal/no hets then she's probably just a normal
