Actual poisonous snake
Amazing shot of a partially dissected Rhabdophis nuchalis (groove-neck keelback). Here you can see the poison glands at the base of the neck (called nuchal glands) are stored poison that the animal sequesters from its food (usually toads).
Thought I would throw this up here. I found it on Facebook and reminded me of all the times weve corrected each other here saying snakes arent poisonous but are venomous. These are the exception to the rule.

It was posted by the reptile report. As soon as I saw it it reminded me of all the times we here have corrected people who say poisonous and telling them venomous. In this case poisonous is one of the rare cases that is the accurate term.

Re: Actual poisonous snake
Examples like this are why the distinction between venomous and poisonous can be important.
Very cool picture, by the way. I always wondered what kind of poison glands the keelbacks used.

Re: Actual poisonous snake
These guys are awesome, have potentially fatal venom and secrete poison as well!
Beautiful specimens as well,

Re: Actual poisonous snake
Also, these guys are quite timid by nature but don't let them fool you!
