More rewarding species to work with?

I own boas and a ball python currently, but was wondering off any personal experiences or stories off some kind with different species that seemed smarter, etc. Thanks

Carpet pythons are my new favorite.Fiesty, active and not quite the pet rock bps and boas are.Although I just got a new one so Im still hyped.
Also what about blue or taiwan beauty snakes, those will keep you on your toes and gorgeous too.
I dont know about smart though, retics are supposed to be smart but of my crew my corns seem the most alert and curious, I have one that chases a laser pointer around his cage.

Carpets are a great choice. Also take a look at Womas. They are known to be one of the more inteligent species of snakes. A friend and I just got one each. Hers is really mellow and easy to handle and very inquisitive. He will periscope and watch while she games on her PC. Its really quite cute. Mine on the other hand is a little s@#t disturber. As soon as his tank is open hes ready for a fight. hes determined to know how I taste no matter how long its been since his last feeding. He hasnt managed to tag me yet only because he pauses before he strikes. He will pause and look before he makes his move. Im certain that the pause is the only reason he hasnt managed to tag me yet. If he didnt over think the strike and would just go for it he would probably get me.

I like woma pythons, but would love to own a black headed python. Australia's export laws make them hard to find. Maybe one day when black heads are cheaper. A axanthic black head python is gorgeous and very expensive. Owning three snakes currently was thinking of maybe a monitor of some kind. Ackie monitor seems cool and not to large full grown.

My Russian rat snake is...certainly different from my other two. Bold, curious--she will seek out interaction more often then not, I just need to open the tub.

Any reptile in a bio-active enclosure, basically, keep the reptile in an enclosure that is entirely natural and youll see some pretty bad *** behaviour.

I feel the same way about enclosures for reptiles.

Indigo's have incredible sense of surroundings and observant behavior. Pituophis species I find to be very curious and brave about things. If you ever take the leap into hots, there is an amazing sense of intelligence (at least in Pit Vipers) that is blatantly noticeable.

I agree with womas, pituophis, or indigos. All very intelligent snakes with a much greater sense of awareness than boas or BPs. Retics too if you're up for the challenge.

Re: More rewarding species to work with?

I'm with sirtalis about a good enclosure. Even my corns are great and fascinating in big, live plant tanks...

About more "smart" ones... I agree about womas and indigos, I heard a lot of great things about them (and I think about getting one of them in future). I don't know about pituophis as they aren't avaiable in my country.

About Russian Rats... if you are lucky and find a "typical care sheet" Russian, then yeah, they are great choice. I'm having one male that is my most curious, bold, brave and inquisitive snake. He will wander in his cage all the time (unless in blue, but even then he's not shy much), if I open the cage he's first to go on hands. If I won't let him go where he wants he will "puff" on me, but with no aggression, just letting me know that he's frustrated with me. He's really great and has a lot of ways to let me know what he wants/thinks. Unfortunately I'm also having 2 females that are a little like reptiledudes woma... they are always hungry and if I open the cage they first try to tag me ("you're nice, big, tasty mouse"). But once on hands they are calm and nice (oh, okay, one is a hisser and will hiss all the time, but no tags or strikes).
