Need help picking a boa

Hey all

Well after a few months of staring at an empty cage, setup ready to go for a baby MBK which my local store hasn't been able to get one that's available and combine this with looking a 3ft 900g BP just laying around in one spot or another in a 48x24x16 cage and reading how most males don't grow a whole lot bigger then my guy is now I've cracked. I can't keep looking at this empty cage (I'm not alone on this right????????) I wanted a boa before as I always thought their diamond pattern was so cool. Didn't know if I could house one right. This will be my third and final snake for a long time. So I reevaluated things and decided to look into a small locale male boa again. A juvie of course so we can grow together and it gets used to me. I've held a 5ft female Colombian who I think was a bit thick for her length judging for pics I've seen on her of others BCIs and felt comfortable despite it being my first time holding a larger snake. So I feel if I grow with the boa from a small size then I'll be even better off. Almost got bitten in the face by a 4-5ft bolovian boa tonight at the store, but that's another story. I was fine with his size right up until that point lol good time to put him back then. I already have the heating equipment and stats to keep the right temps and keeping a higher humidity isn't a big problem as both the small cage and big one are PVC and I'll be using cypress mulch.

I would like a male that would be 5-6'ish when full grown.

Few questions/help needed

1) Does housing temp/humidity of central american locale boas change between locales? It's my understanding that these locales blood are the smaller BCIs.

2) Are there any reliable information sources about these? Most care sheets as with any pet change depending on the site. It's hard to figure out what's right.

3) What are some reputable breeders in Southern Ontario with pretty reliable bloodlines/size? I already plan on contacting Nagy reptiles, just wanted to know who else is in the area. I don't mind driving to pick up the snake. It's a one time trip and to get a quality animal that I'll obviously have a long time it's worth the gas.

Nagy reptiles is a fantastic choice. My other fantastic choice is Corey Woods. He's in Guelph so a bit of a drive. I know he works with "centrals" as well as Hogg islands. His line of Hoggs are pure as he got them from a wild caught line. He can legit trace their heritage back to the wild lol.

I know he has some of both available. I don't know about Nagy's availability.

I know the centrals can be kept just like a ball python. They tend to be snappier from my experience though. Hoggs I'm unsure about. I haven't dealt with them in many years and when I did they were fine.

Corey is a great source for these locales. The others I'm unsure of. Rich Delbono I believe in the States may have a book or at least check his website.

I thought central was just a broad term used to cover all the different locales in central south america. Didn't know they are different strain as well. I would prefer a locale that is more like a Colombian in terms of temperament. The female I held didn't seem to be bothered by anything just hung out casually like she knew me.

There are so many boa locales. Some island ones, some "central" americans. Nicaraguan are the most common due to morphs.

I'm absolutely in love with BCLs. If I were to get a boa constrictor, that'd be the one I'd choose. They're most likely extinct in the wild and not too terribly common in the pet trade either. I know a few members here have some. They're absolutely gorgeous.

Longicaudas need cooler temps. Don't quote me on exact temps as I don't have one but my friend just got one and we've been discussing how similar her boa's needs are to my BRB so 70s-low 80s. They like humidity as well, being from Peru. Males stay in the 5-6' range with females not getting a whole lot bigger. They aren't quite as heavy as a typical boa constrictor either [though not as slender as a slender boa like rainbows]. They're also very, very tame and well mannered boas.

You probably won't find all that many care sheets, if any at all, but members on here could help I'm sure. Aaaand I don't know how well you would be able to find one. I was going to offer to get you in contact with my friend who breeds them however I don't think he ships to Canada? No clue whatsoever about how international reptile shipping works. It sounds like you're looking for something not-shipped too.

Still something to consider and look into. They're really interesting boas and sound like they'd be up your alley.

We have similar ones up here so take that :P

Eclipse boas, IMG boas...leopards get pretty dark on their own. All morphs though.

I won't be able to make it to that one. Family will be visiting from over seas and that has to take priority. They did travel a few thousand km. I don't mind the drive to secure the specific one I want. I'm used to driving a few hundred km a day for work anyway.
