Hullo

I'm a complete n00b when it comes to reptiles.

I've always been a rat person. I've had pet rats since I was six, so when I felt myself gaining a deep admiration for snakes, I was quite surprised. When my last ratty died (at the ripe old age of three years), I decided I couldn't handle the heart break of another short lived rodent.

After months of research and preparation I decided to adopt a baby ball python. When I met her the first time I didn't know what to expect. I'd never handled a snake before and I was worried that I didn't have the right temperament. She was scared and completely balled up when the handler picked her up out of the enclosure, but after twelve seconds of sitting in my hands she uncurled and started exploring, entirely calm and happy (or as happy as snakes can be--I don't know if their brains actually secrete enough oxytocin/dopamine/serotonin/etc. to create an emotion that could be described as happy). I've had her for almost a month and I'm utterly smitten with her.

Right now I'm looking into building a custom enclosure, which is mostly why I've been lurking on this board, and why I decided to finally join. I wanted to see the pictures of the custom enclosures that people had built! People here have built some lovely things, and I'm stealing all sorts of ideas.

Anyway, hello. ^_^
