Awesome gtp

We have had gtp's for about 6 months now. Although we have always wanted one we were apprehensive because of their reputation of having a less than friendly disposition. But we got one anyway and he is actually the nicest snake we have ever owned and he INSISTS on being held every night. His name is Giuseppe. He lives in an exotera and every single night as soon as the lights go out in his cage he moves to the front of his cage and rests his nose against crack between the two glass doors and stays there until we open the doors and he comes right out on our arm. We hold him for an hour or two and then put him back. Every single night!! He has never bit or struck at any of us or others who interact with him when we take him out. We also added another small gtp named Sydney. That snake is also extremely mellow but we rarely hold him because of his small size. We own a total of 13 snakes but Giuseppe is by far the best pet we've ever had

Re: Awesome gtp

I think he just wants to get out of the cage, he doesn't want be held lol green tree pythons become most active at night. How about you take him outside when he wants to be held and see if he stays with you or slides away, I think that would be a good test to se if he wants to be held lol

Re: Awesome gtp

Yeah I have no doubt that his reason for wanting to be held is different from the reason for us wanting to hold him. I never meant to imply he's an affectionate snake and I know gtp are active at night. I'm sure he's just looking to move but the fact remains he is a very mellow snake, not at all head shy and his willingness to to come right out and be held is atypical behavior. It is more like a monitor's behavior than a snake's
