Pine snake "catnip" alarm pheromone???

I've just observed something quite strange. My roommate was chilling on my bed with my black pine snake, and the snake disappeared under the blankets. Quickly, to make sure she didn't escape behind the bed or something, I located her and pulled her out. Because I was so quick, of course she got scared and started hissing at me but quickly calmed down. I noticed a very faint scent, like snake poop but with sweet notes to it, which was strange because I couldn't find any poop or wet spots in the blankets and she hadn't sprayed anything when she got scared...but the weirdest part was that my cat loved the smell! She ran over from across the room and shoved her face against the snake! I promptly left the room with my snake to calm her down, then returned her to her enclosure. But my cat was still sniffing all over my bed, rubbing on every surface and meowing. When I went to pet her, she spent a solid 10 minutes just sniffing my hand. Eventually she got comfy and fell asleep on my bed, but as soon as she woke up she got all excited and started sniffing the bed again. Out of curiosity, I brought my other snakes out(one at a time) to see how they would react to the smell, but they acted perfectly normal and showed no interest in the scent.

I've never seen my cat react this way to any snake smell(poop, pee, and musk are all unpleasant to her) and I've never come across such a smell myself, nor heard of anyone else observing such a thing.

So has anyone here had such an experience? Or at least know anything about the sweet-poopy smell I described which was somehow emitted without any liquid?

Maybe he musked somewhere you didn't see it? My only explanation for the cat's behavior is that cats are gross, and cats are weird. There is no explanation for cats.

Re: Pine snake "catnip" alarm pheromone???

The thing is: it didn't smell like musk, and when my cat smells musk she makes a "yuck!" face and runs away. I did look around thoroughly for wet spots(this was in my bed, after all) but there was nothing. it was very faint and I couldn't smell it for very long, even though my cat was able to smell it for around and hour. Maybe it was a fart?

I don't know, but this is both weird and funny.

Maybe it's a breeding time scent or something?
