Texas Gulf Coast Adventures
I did some snake hunting today at the Texas City Terminal Railroad with a friend today, no luck with snakes but I did find a 4 foot 9 inch rat snake shed. Also went out and captured four lizards, an invasive species with pocket populations spreading all over the area, cuban anoles. They are beautiful but it's better I have them as pets than they compete with and displace the Carolina Anoles, they had enough problems just with the mediterranean house geckos.

Some local catches that I either still have, or released back home.

Re: Texas Gulf Coast Adventures
Cool pics, thank you! I'm used to thinking of Cuban anodes as patterned like the second picture - didn't know they could be as patternless as the one in the last (anole)pic.

Re: Texas Gulf Coast Adventures
There aren't many Praying Mantis around here that I have seen. I caught that one on my truck one day after I had been off roading. He stayed around my yard for a year after I found him and eventually either passed on or moved on, or got eaten by something. He was cool while he was around though, I called him 'Master Sheldon'. Also, the cubans change from the patterned look to the pale gray sometimes.

Re: Texas Gulf Coast Adventures
Eastern Worm Snake, really common here in southeast TX, even though most guides put them further east.

Re: Texas Gulf Coast Adventures
That is a Rough Earth Snake, Eastern Worm Snakes are not found in Texas. Western Worm Snakes are found only in the extreme north east corner of Texas. Nice finds though.

Re: Texas Gulf Coast Adventures
Awesome finds. I'll be out in Galveston in early August. I'd like to get some herping in if I can while I'm there.

Re: Texas Gulf Coast Adventures
I thought it looked like the Eastern, I didn't know rough worm snakes existed truthfully. They're common down here everyone just calls them grass snakes.

Re: Texas Gulf Coast Adventures
Caught this plainbellied watersnake today while field herping. I also caught a turtle and found a skin. There is another, larger, watersnake there as well. This one could actually be a yellow bellied watersnake but it's just starting it's shed and I can't tell.
