male or female?

Helping out a friend. She's getting 2 BPs and a blood from a lady who doesn't seem confidant in what she has. She sent this pic to me today needing to know the gender. She was told female, I kind of want to say male, but neither of us are pros.

So...what is it?

Re: male or female?

Certain species differ by tail length, but Google search says this is largely an inaccurate method. Popping is the only sure way, but can cause damage if done wrong.

Re: male or female?

There's no way to know unless you pop or probe, both should be done by very experienced people...Looking at the tail isn't very accurate unfortunately

Re: male or female?

Pop? -> Flexing the back end in such a way the genitals pop out?
Probe? -> Sticking something metal in the same spot?

That is a ball python butt.

Yea the only way to tell is to pop or probe. If it's am older snake you're better off probing.

You got it! With probing you're looking to see how far in the probe goes.

Popping is is only 100% accurate if it show to be a male, if it shows to be a female, the popping could have been done improperly.

With popping you have to flex the tail back and roll your finger toward the cloaca.

Re: male or female?

Can you even pop a snake that old? I thought popping was for hatchlings only?

Re: male or female?

Negative. Popping is easier in hatchlings but certainly is effective with adults. Once you have the technique mastered correctly it becomes very simple. The only definitive way to accurately sex a snake is to pop it or probe it. Period.
