hairless mice!

Ok, sooo...impulse buy! I found someone on CL selling a1.2 trio of 'fuzzy' mice. Not fuzzy as in age, but as in almost hairless, like a double rex rat!

Since I have been thinking about breeding my own anyway, figured...why not?!

Soooo, I'll be picking up some bedding and food and a water bottle tomorrow after work.

Bow, these are freshly weaned babies, and I don't want to put them in togeter too soon. So, what is agood age to put them together? Also, any extra care tips would be great.

So excited!

Change of plans...got the itty bitties today!!!

They are fast little buggers so pics were not easy.

They are only 4-5 weeks old and I found out that for healthy breeding, I should wait till they are 12 weeks old. So, the boy is seperated. =)

Pic of just the kne, but honestly they all look the same. The boy and one of the girls are easy to handle but the other girl is MEGA skittish and jumpy. Lots of handling in her future lol.

Cool, good luck! I've set out to breed my own mice twice. Both times I quickly gave up due to the smell. My pet food shouldn't be more work than my pets.

I may try again with rats, eventually.

Lol yeah. They are atinky buggers for sure. I'm working on figuring out how to help with that as well. Apparently doing only half litter cleanings help keeps the smell down a BUNCH because when you do a full change they go into hyper mose of 'omg gotta mark my territory' and produce more concentrated urin and musk to do that. But, if you only do it half at a time, they don't procude the concentraded urin/musk. It won't take care of the smell completely, but does severely reduce it. I'm still working it out myself and can tell you if it works. =)

I will probably upgrade to rats in a year or two when my snakes are all full grown. But for now, large pinks, fuzzies, hoppers, and adult mice are a good size.

I also want to maybe work up to being a fresher alternitive for local feeders than petco/petsmart. The only other place that sells live feeders is expensive and has a bad reputation with their quality.
