remove the old caulking with a razor blade and re caulk. Make sure you use the non toxic aqurium sealant

I would remove all the old silicon and replace it with new aquarium safe silicon. Should work, just make sure it's dry when you put the new stuff on it. That's what I've done and worked fine.

Yeah that's one thing i didn't want to do is cut all the old silicon out...oh well can't beat the price.

Is there a "tool"that's supposed to be used to ensure the silicone gets contact inn all the corners and such? Something like you would use in grouting and tiling

Re: how to fix a leaking tank?

They make tools to use in bathrooms for grout and silicone the other way is wet your finger and use that to push it in and smooth it out. If you're finger is wet it won't stick to it. Do it at work when caulking, though I don't do it often.

Silicone will not stick to silicone. You will have to scrape out the old where it leaks and make sure there is no residue of silicone left before you redo it.
I think they make a chemical to remove the residue but not entirely sure. If you get on an aquarium fish forum they usually have tutorials or someone who can help.
