hook training

Is hook training a good idea for any of the Giants? I found someone that has a baby albino granite burm they're trying to sell only around 2 feet right now but i know thatll be drastically different in a year and even more in 2 years. The guy says he's feeding bi weekly on small rats, does that sound okay? And he says the snake is hissy and it's only because burms are talkative, is this correct or is this something that may turn into a concern with size? I was wondering what size enclosures do you guys house your adult burms and whats an easy set up to get them out is hook training something i should start immediately?

Re: hook training

They do talk a bit, they get over it quick. But the thing I would be concerned about is the size of the snake compared to its age. If this Burm was hatched last year, it should really be about 5 or 6 feet or so, not 2 or 3. It may be stunted already, but maybe that isn't a factor for you.
Hook training is a good idea, my Burm is responsive every time I open the door to her enclosure, I use a hook just to let her know there is no food, and I've never had any issues with her.
A 72x36x18 is perfectly fine for a normal sized adult Burm.
Is this the albino granite advertised for sale in the Minneapolis area?

Re: hook training

The hissing thing really is nothing to worry about our 2 are ridiculous most of the times we have them out, and you soon learn to tell when they are giving you a real DON'T COME ANYWHERE NEAR ME HISS to the usual just moving around hiss. Hook or tap training is a must as metalchopper said this will save you a lot of grieve later down the line. I hope everything works out for you and you get your burm keep us posted and there's more than enough people on here to help you out

Re: hook training

What's the best thing to make a burm enclosure out of? Also what is typical burm pricing?

Plastic, buy a pre-made one from a company like Animal Plastics. That's the best way to go IMO. the 6x3x1.5 that was recommended above is the perfect size for an adult IMO.

Price depends on location, morph, age, size, etc.

Hook training is definitely recommended for the giants. And they are talkers. Most of the giants are.
