Heating question

Hi again!
So I'm slowly getting my large viv set up, so exciting! I just got my CHE in today and I have a question for you guys. What kind of dome can I use with this? I've attached a picture of the box the CHE came in so you know what brand and wattage. I do have a closed in ceramic dome (link to the kind at bottom) but do I need a wire cage dome with these?

Ps. This will NOT be in cage with my corn it will be on top of the viv

Re: Heating question

Any dome will do, treat it like a light bulb.

Re: Heating question

Ok thanks! I just didn't know if I had to worry about the extreme heat melting anything or starting a fire

Re: Heating question

they do get pretty hot though. i used those in my vivs for a while and they provided really nice warmth. but....you really need a thermostat to keep the temps appropriate and so the temps don't run away from you...

Re: Heating question

Oh I'm definatly using a therostat, wouldn't dream of having a CHE without a thermostat! Just didn't know if your ordinary ceramic light dome would be ok with that much heat

Re: Heating question

i would think so (disclaimer: i'm a doctor, not electrician ).....i used mine in standard ceramic incandescent light receptacle you get at home depot or lowe's, wired myself () and it seemed to work ok.

Heat or light domes should have a wattage rating.if it was me, I would find one that will handle whatever wattage requirements of che.
