What snake would you pick?

I haven't made any choices yet and still around 6 months from buying another snake but I have 2 cages and 1 snake, and we can't have that can we . A 48x24x16 pvc and a 24x24x12 pvc. I bought the larger one and outfitted with wood for him to have more room to explore and climb but other than the first inspection he is hanging out in one hide or the other as he was before. Have yet to see him on the wood since the first few minutes to check it out. I'm playing with the idea of moving him back into his old home and buying a larger or more active snake that will better utilize the set up. I have all the hardware already setup pro products rhps, UTH and ranco stats controlling each piece independently. Both cages have an LED strip for my enjoyment but I only turn in on manually for short periods. Keeping in mind I am a beginner and would like a calm snake that's different. I wouldn't trade my BP for any snake but for a second I want something a bit different. I was in the reptile store today picking up food for Mushu and was browsing around. The guy had me hold a 5ft Colombian boa to prove what he was saying about there temperament. I must admit it has me thinking. What would you do? If you're buying a snake for the 48" cage what would it be?

Re: What snake would you pick?

I'd go with a Jungle Carpet Python or a Bull Snake. Both are fairly active and beautiful display animals that would go well with that size enclosure. The husbandry is pretty straightforward too.

Re: What snake would you pick?

The option of buying a snake for the larger cage has opened up a lot more options and still end up seeing one that pushes the edge of what the cage can hold. The annoying part is the sometimes huge range of cage sizes people use for the same snake.

Madagascar giant hognose. That's what I would get.

Re: What snake would you pick?

So far an MBK tops my short list of possibilities. Something really cool about a jet black snake.

Re: What snake would you pick?

He would get the big cage when he grew up enough. From what I've read they will make better use of the space and wood.

One question though is what humidity range do they need? All the care sheets I've read say they aren't a humidity demanding snake or something equally vague but never list numbers. The humidity here is low in winter.

Re: What snake would you pick?

Another great choice tb. Ambient humidity of 40-60% is fine for MBK's.

Re: What snake would you pick?

That's good to know, I can maintain that level in winter with coco husk for my BP.

What snake would you pick

I would willingly allow the changes to happen but continue to use my powers to fight for what I felt was right not necessarily just the toxic spirits.

Re: What snake would you pick?

Wow I had a big reply typed up but it didn't post. Darn Ipad. This enclosure offers the floor space of a 30 gallon breeder. Actually a bit bigger. You could keep any number of species in it. I would stick to the smaller types because I like to see snakes with more room for activities. Mid sized kings would be cool. Some of the mountain kings are strikingly beautiful and this would be a great size for them.

Re: What snake would you pick?

Just gotta say I picked up a mbk a few months ago and there's something about that jet black color that just keeps on giving every time I get her out or look at her. Can't go wrong with a mbk. Plus I think they are fairly active inside the closure.

Re: What snake would you pick?

MBKs are on my short list for sure. I can pretty safely say at some point I'm buying an MBK. It might not be this time but at some point I will be. As you say there is something about that jet black colour.
